Early Retirement

When companies are forced to downsize their work force, there are several options that they can take to pare things down. One of these options is early retirement. This is where companies offer an incentive to individuals who are close to retirement age so that they can retire early, thus freeing the company of an extra employee or two. This can be an advantageous option for both parties depending on the nature of the retirement incentive. If no incentive is given, it would be hard to entice people to take early retirement.

There are several things a company or organization can do to help encourage early retirement. One of them is to allow the individuals full retirement benefits. For example, if at the age of sixty the individual would get a certain pension, and that is the maximum they could get, the company may move these full benefits to the age of fifty five to help encourage people to retire early. There are also other things a company can do such as increase the incentive or the pension for people to retire early

or also give them a bonus.

So why would a company need to downsize? There are several reasons and some of them can be quite complex. It all depends on the industry the company or organization is in. In the case of the electronics industry, for example, people may need to downsize their companies if the technology the company specialized in is no longer usable or popular. But that is just one example of many. Another example could be that the economy as a whole is sluggish and people just are not buying things like they used to.

When it comes to early retirement, it could be hard to make the relevant decision. On the one hand, retiring early would give you more freedom to enjoy the rest of your life. But on the other, a lot of people enjoy their jobs and get a lot of satisfaction from it. These are the people who may have a hard time being convinced that early retirement is a good thing. But, there are other ways to entice people into retirement and if that does not work, other methods to downsize will need to be used.
